Bill and Retha at 45th Reunion

For the 50th Reunion

Dear LRCHS Classmates of 1961,

It’s hard to believe we are about to celebrate 50 years since we walked across the platform in Quigley Stadium and received our high school diplomas, opening the door to the future.  Each of us has a unique story of the past 50 years but we all have one thing in common, each story begins at LRCHS.  It was a great beginning and we had teachers who cared and wanted the best for us.

Many of us have remained in Little Rock and get to see each other on occasion.  I wish all of our classmates could come to this reunion.   We will share stories about high school days and the past 50 years.  For a couple of days we can be teenagers again.  It will be a great time!

What has happened in my life over the last 50 years?  Let’s see if I can get it on one page.  I’ll go with bullet one-liners.

  • After graduation I went to Arkansas Tech
  • Graduated from Tech in 1965 with a degree in Geology
  • Employed as a geologist with the Arkansas Geological Commission (AGC)
  • Served in the Navy aboard USS Saratoga CVA-60 in the Atlantic Fleet
  • Married to the love of my life, Retha Sue Pumphrey, in 1966
  • After active duty returned to my geologist job
  • We have one daughter, Nancy Suzanne
  • Nancy is married to Patrick Hale and they have three children
  • Grandchildren: Christian 15, Madison 13, Taylor 11
  • Eventually appointed State Geologist of Arkansas and Director of the AGC
  • Retha taught at Mount St. Mary’s Academy, retired in 2001
  • I retired January 2003, love every minute of retirement
  • The first day of my retirement threw my watch away, never missed a tee time
  • Part of a great golf foursome for past 8 years, play every week rain or shine
  • Belong to the Senior Golf Association of Arkansas
  • Play golf with my two grandsons
  • We do a lot of volunteer work at church, Immanuel Baptist
  • Still stay active in my profession doing some geologic consulting
  • We love being with daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids
  • Looking forward to this reunion, don’t you miss it
  • Come to the reunion and I’ll tell you the rest of my story and I’ll listen to yours

God Bless, Bill(y) Bush
